Avon Beach

Avon Beach has fantastic views of the Isle of Wight and the famous Needles Lighthouse.

We run approximately a 1/4 mile of beach from in front of the car park to the end of our green beach huts. The beach is mainly sand with some shingle. Great for making those sand castles, and digging holes to Australia. The beach is suitable for all the family, offering a gentle slope into the sea.

Sand bars often appear depending on the tide movements and these can be great fun to play on, but always under sensible adult supervision. The tide can creep in on you which can be frightening if you are a non-swimmer. As with anywhere near the sea or waterways care should be taken at all times. The beach section in front of the car park is designated for water sports. This does not mean you are not allowed to swim or sit in this area, but that it might be safer, particularly if you have small children, to sit in front of the shops and beach huts.

People carrying surf boards and sails can be a little unpredictable, especially when it is windy, and windsurfers and boat users cannot always see a head in the water.

Kidz Safe Scheme Wristbands Available Free

It is every parents worst nightmare to lose a child on a busy beach, so if you are visiting with small children why not make use of our Kidz Safe Scheme Wristbands? These are available, free of charge, from the Shop, or Beach Office.

All you need to do is tear off the security coded portion of the wristband and retain it in a safe place, write your mobile phone number on the reverse and then attach the wristband to your child's wrist. Then when we discover a lost child it is a simple process of phoning the number on the wristband and reuniting with the parent (with the extra verification of the retained security coded stubb.)

It makes for a far speedier, happy conclusion, with fewer tears all round.

Beach Office

During July and August we have a first aid post at the Beach Office for attending to minor injuries. We also hire out beach huts, deck chairs, sun loungers, kayaks and wind breaks from here as well. There is always someone on call for any local information that you m

Kayak Hire

Why not hire one of our sit-on kayaks and enjoy a leisurely paddle in the Bay. Sit-on kayaks are extremely stable and can be paddled by a beginner or intermediate with ease. Within a few minutes anyone from 8 to 80 will feel relaxed and in control. We do however require all would be paddlers to be able to swim and to wear the buoyancy vests provided. Our kayaks can support one adult or one adult and a small child. Hire charges are £10 per hour from an initial £20 deposit.

Dogs Welcome

Avon Beach is an excellent location for dog walking, but it’s fair to say that the smell of bacon wafting down the beach has led to many a dog walk detour.

We are pleased to say that well-behaved dogs are welcome to visit the café on the terraces outside and in the tiled indoor area. Fresh water is always available for thirsty pooches.

Please note that some areas of the shoreline are restricted to dogs between May 1st-September 30th.

The return of the Bouncy Slide!

Yes, it's back. And just as much fun as ever. The bouncy slide is sited outside the shop. It's an ideal way to keep the kids entertained while you sit back and enjoy an ice cream!
