Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

  • No, it’s not France it’s the Isle of Wight. (We get asked every week.)

  • We are open seven days a week all year round except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The Shop is only closed on Christmas Day.

  • Café opening hours are usually 9:00am to 4:30pm in the winter and 9:00am to 5:00pm in the summer. (Although these times might alter in extreme weather conditions. Please phone to check if you think weather might be a factor)

  • We don’t take bookings. Unfortunately, we are too busy. When hungry customers are pouring in it just isn’t possible to reserve tables. It’s much fairer to operate on first come first served basis.

  • The Avon Beach Café cannot be booked for Private Functions.

  • Dogs are welcome to join their owners on the terraces, and indoors in the tiled area of the café, (not in the carpeted room though please).

  • The Take-away cabin is usually open at weekends, and during the school holidays, weather permitting. (And yes we do still serve the handmade coffees with our own blend of coffee from there, too.)

  • We do have our own Gift Vouchers. These can be purchased in the Café and Shop, and are redeemable in the Café, Shop, and in part payment for beach hut bookings.

  • The Shop is open from 9:00am to 4:30pm during the winter and from 9:00am to 6:30pm in the summer, subject to weather.

  • Car Park charges are calculated on a per day basis. The car park attendant gives refunds for unused hours on departure.

  • The Avon Beach Car Park has no overnight parking.

  • The Car Park is locked at the time displayed on the attendant’s hut and display boards. These times change as the seasons progress so please check the day’s closing time, on entry.

  • No trailers, caravans or horse boxes are permitted in the Avon Beach Car Park.

  • The weekly beach hut hire period is from Sunday to Saturday. Beach huts can be used from 9:00am to Sunset. Bookings can be made in the bookshop or by phoning 01425-272162 ext 3, or at the Beach Office (when open). Day huts can only be booked on the day of hire and cannot be pre-booked.

  • Avon Beach has a First Aid post located in the Beach Office on the promenade. If closed First Aid may be available at the Shop. From July to September RNLI Lifeguards will be operating on Avon Beach, between the hours of 10:00am to 6:00pm.

  • Horses are not permitted on the seashore between Easter Saturday and 30th September (inclusive) between 10:00am and 9:00pm.

  • Open Fires are not permitted on Avon Beach. BBQs are permitted on Avon Beach but must not be set within three metres of any beach huts. Please be mindful of wind direction and respectful of other beach users with regards to wind blown smoke. BBQs are not to be turned into fires post cooking.

  • Boats and Jet Skis that are on a trailer cannot be launched from Avon Beach. The nearest slipway is on Mudeford Quay.
